The New England Colonies
Our Unit will be broken into three sections:
1 - The Massachusetts Bay Colony
Objectives: describe the accomplishments of significant colonial leaders such as John Winthrop
- identify examples of representative government in the American colonies
- understand the political, religious, social, and economic institutions that evolved in the colonial era.
2 - New Ideas, New Colonies
Objectives: explain when, where, and why groups of people colonized and settled in what is now the United States.
- describe the achievements of colonial leaders such as Roger Williams, Anne Hutchinson, Thomas Hooker, and David Thomson
- identify and compare examples of representative government in the American colonies.
3 - New England's Economy
Objectives: identify major industries of colonial America
- identify the political and economic relationships between the colonies and England
- explain the economic patterns of early European colonists
- explain the history of the slave trade in the United States
Notes for each section are attached here. Students will be responsible to know the vocabulary as well as the KEY POINTS/IMPORTANT THINGS TO REMEMBER from each note section.
